Every star is plotted from a real catalogue, projected for your date through the same spherical astronomy — date to Julian day, to sidereal time, to altitude and azimuth at your coordinates — that a planetarium uses. Stars below the horizon that night are left out, because they genuinely weren’t up. The moon gets its own calculation: its actual phase and its actual position for that hour, not a generic crescent icon.

Two chapters on two different nights, or in two different cities on the same night, draw two different skies — because they were different skies.

Recurring, without going stale

A card that says "2024" forever is a card that starts reading wrong in 2026. These presets recur — the displayed date is computed at read time — while the sky they draw stays fixed to the night it actually was, which is the whole reason the recurrence math exists at all.
